I have a friend going through a severe debilitating crippling disease. She's a young wife and mother. Her entire life is drastically changing. She's reading these posts and God is blessing her here and with others who know God's love is forever, always, in all situations. When the doubts of His love emerge we know who the real culprit is. . May we all have Edwards' commitment to never let the enemy's whispers erode our faith. In order to thrive, doubt of God's love has to be dealt with quickly or the cost is great.
May we come to such nearness to God that we like Edwards can resolve...

Rejection and betrayal were major problems for me in years past. When people disappointed or hurt me I would begin to doubt God as well as the individuals. R.T. Kendall has written books that were the most helpful for me on these issues.
I recommend every believer read his 2 books: Total Forgiveness and God Meant it for Good .

Jonathan Edwards' sermons would move the most incorrigible sinner and the coldest religious pharisee to fall on their faces in conviction of the Holy Spirit; and desperately they would come humbly seeking the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation. I am most tempted to doubt God when i refuse to see him in the little things. I only want the big stuff and yet, there he is, silently stalking me with cosmic blessing

Very timely messages Kay, especially as we go into the end of the year as most people are thinking of their "New Years' Resolutions."
May we resolved, like Brother Edwards to see Christ for who He really is and then pattern our life after that in a practical, tangible way that others may see Him and be changed for His and their sake.

I think I'm going to put these two books on my wish list. You know where I've been, where I've come from and where I am now.
But, still those old tapes replay from time to time--you're not good enough, you're NEVER going to be good enough, look what you've done NOW!!
I can replace these old tapes with new tapes of love from God, but it all comes down to the issue of forgiveness.
Rejection and betrayal--two biggies for you and me!!

Your comments has expanded my understanding on these resolutions of Edwards. I love tto read the old classics of the Christian greats, but sometimes I find I'm in a small group of people who cherish these writings.
You young people blessed me more than I can express by getting into this descussion over Edwards' words xome 300 years later.
